the project
Barclays were embarking on a re-platform for their internal intranet system 'Barclays Now'. With this platform their entire global workforce, including in branch staff would access internal news, the bespoke social aspect as well as many other functions in order to perform day to day tasks. The platform has 9.5 million homepage loads per month.
With this re-platform, Barclays understood that it was a prime time with which to not only update the interface design, but also change aspects of the foundations of the platform including introducing a responsive grid and altering elements of information hierarchy and layout.
the solution
As the sole consultant leading the User Experience delivery my first step was understanding the business goals, what testing had been performed and what functionality was in for day one through to a utopian vision so we could build all possibilities future proofing for an MVP release.
I engaged the development team to ensure there was a unified vision on grid systems and technology that the UX team were adhering to and from that ensured that UX deliverables were keeping in line with technical limitations of the platform while adhering to the structure and foundations myself and the development team agreed on.
When creating the new visual identity for the new Barclays colleague experience it was paramount that I adhered to the core Barclays branded visual language.
I knew that the solution would require new bespoke User Interface elements found only in this platform and understood the importance of consistency with other areas of Barclays digital products.
My approach combined already familiar visual communication and brand rules while taking inspiration from out of industry design standards to allow digital expectancy, familiarity and business requirement to blend as one creative experience.
